"Pingomania" or a "pingomaniac"...
Basically characterized by an intense obsession with paint... Where it gets interesting to me tho is the origin of the first part.
First, I looked up the origin of the word paint, and traced it back to latin word "pingo", meaning "I paint"... but even older than that is this word "pingere", which is like paint, draw, tint, adorne.. the root for a lot of words surrounding paint today... Pigment, picture, puncture... to name a few. It even means to tattoo or even carve a surface with decoration.
Ever since I was a kid, I've been obsessed with changing surfaces with some form of marking. Basically any application/technique. Completely obsessed.. like a compulsion that happens (a lot) every day in one way or another.
Now, I tattoo and paint for a living, and I paint and make prints for fun. I'm not only obsessed with the visual effects, but also the textures, the smells, the environment of a paint job or studio, various forms of print, temporary nature of graffiti, permanent magic of tattoo, giving white walls fresh coats of white... Everything that comes with paint in its many forms... Honestly being covered in paint feels incredibly empowering to me for some reason.. and since before I can remember I've been especially compelled change the way various surfaces around me look. I truly can't help it. Pretty sure I would involuntarily do it in any circumstance as long as I'm alive. I'm a true "pingomaniac" haha
